As a lifeguard, you must possess these skills:
Comfortable in and around open water with basic knowledge of safety considerations
Comfortable in deep water with basic watercraft proficiency (Surfboard, paddleboard, kayak)
Ability to pass lifeguard prerequisite exam (550-meter open water swim, 2-minute tread water without hands, etc.)
Preferably have experience working with, or teaching children
Red Cross Certification or WSI certification preferred but not required
Must be 18 years or older
